WCLVnotes Someone called Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle “the most important artistic achievement ever”. Such a statement is probably debatable, but you have to admit that the twelve hours or so of music that Wagner created are pretty impressive. The Metropolitan Opera over WCLV 104.9 FM is now in the midst of presenting the four operas that make up this massive music drama. Rheingold was heard on March 20th, and the continued story resumes this Saturday at 12:30 PM with Die Walkuere and continues on April 17th with Siegfried and Goetterdaemmerung on the 24th. One of the most accurate and funniest accounts of the maze that is the story of The Ring Cycle is Anna Russell’s The Ring Cycle – An Analysis, which will be heard on WCLV’s “Weekend Radio”, the weekend of the 17th. Not so incidentally, unless the Met Opera gets another $3.5 million, the Goetterdaemmerung broadcast of the 24th could be the last in the Met Opera Saturday broadcasts, a series that began when your grandparents were listening to crystal sets. a Cool Cleveland partner
