Everyone knew it was coming but that didn't make it any easier for his friends and acquaintances in the Cleveland music scene when Ken Janssen passed away on New Year's Eve after battling Lou Gehrig's disease for more than two years. The musician, who resigned as a booker at the Beachland Ballroom so he could help spearhead the rebirth of the surrounding neighborhood, he was known for his spirit, energy and irreverence.

Rashid Mitcham switched from his long-time vegetarian diet to a vegan diet four years ago and sings the praises of the impact it had on him. His business, Mo Bites, provides organic vegans food to restaurants, caterers and others. He loves to share his dietary revelations and he'll be doing so at a free vegan cooking demonstration at the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Library. Wed 1/14.
