Local burlesque promoter Bella Sin had a dream, and now her dream is coming true. The director of the decade-old troupe Le Femme Mystique wanted to create a festival in Cleveland that would make the city a destination for practitioners of this rebirthed art form.
Now that dream is going on four. This year's festival has expanded to three days, with the opening night taking place at Mahall's and the other two at the Beachland Ballroom. There'll be more than 50 performers from all over the country, classes for aspiring burlesque performers, vendors, and recognition of nonprofits and volunteers in the community.

It's a nearly three-decade tradition for area classical musicians, including members of the Cleveland Orchestra, to get together on August 6 to commemorate the dropping of the first atom bomb on Hiroshima and to raise money for peace efforts. This year's "Brahms Not Bombs" concert takes place at Nighttown.

Huron County, just west of Cleveland, is a sea of productive farms, thanks to its rich "muck soil." But that soil also creates problems, including pests and increased weed production. OSU's Muck Soil Agricultural Research Center is devoted to attacking these issues with as few chemicals as possible. Its Field Day workshop shares the results of that work with the public.
