The former Kent State Folk Fest is now the Kent Folk Fest, with nine evenings of music in ten days at the Kent Stage. They feature old-timers like John Sebastian, old OLD timers like Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys, and hot young acts like Cabinet, Driftwood, and sizzling new (and already Grammy-nominated) all-woman bluegrass quintet Della Mae who kick off the festival. The Cleveland Vegan Society didn't launch Vegfest last year to guilt-trip you meat-eaters out there. They just wanted to raise awareness of alternatives and show people how tasty they could be. And they attracted 2,500 people. This year's Vegfest, also at CSU, promises to be even bigger. Sat 6/7.
