One Night Stand will be a spectacular art experience highlighting new artworks and installations by Ales BASK Hostomsky in untraditional gallery space. Rather than being opening night for an extended showing, it is a singular event that will bring people together to celebrate, reflect and discuss BASK's paintings. The inspiration should be rich, from the raw setting of the empty warehouse space to the layered and textured images of the paintings, all complimented by a live DJ set by Brian Brain of Subfix and (216) Bass. Yeah, you might not want to miss this one.
Ales BASK Hostomsky, usually referred to simply as BASK, has been described as post-graffiti and satirical. Many of his works feature popular commercial images but he is skilled in the art of gentle subversion. His intention is to inspire and create awareness, rather than to provoke and agitate.
He emigrated with his family from Czechoslovakia to Florida when he was young and he started making connections between the images of state propaganda and the pervasive images of corporate commercialism. He usually creates his pieces on found materials; old signs and boards, adding layers of meaning as he converts the abandoned and discarded into representations of deep personal expression. He sometimes combines text with his images, such as Thoughtcrimes or Bask in Your Thoughtcrimes, encouraging others to join him to defy "the norms of the status quo" to tap into "your creative urge unconfined by the restraints from corporations, the state, media and society... Cleveland composer Steven Mark Kohn is somewhat of a rarity these days, in that he is one of the few faculty members at the Cleveland Institute of Music who actually grew up in Northeast Ohio. Another contradiction is that he prefers to write music that can be performed on an old upright piano in a barn, with only a candle for illumination. Yet he teaches electronic music, and is in fact, in charge of the Electronic Music Studio at CIM.
Kohn has no regrets about staying here. “I’ve found the CIM electronic music studio to be exhilarating fun for these last thirteen years. The students at CIM are very talented. I’ve learned a lot from them. CIM is an oasis of creativity and progressive thought—I feel it every time I enter the building.” He found a song publisher, located in Arkansas, who also promotes Kohn’s work.

There seems to be a fair amount of angst floating about in regards to how Cavs fans should conduct themselves when LeBron makes his much-anticipated reemergence at the "Q" on Dec. 2.
Ever since he decamped for the sunnier climes of Miami our panties have been all in a bunch... we've had rocks in our jaws... we've been so pissed off our collective ass could chew bubblegum.

It happens every November and it's as dead certain as the ever-earlier evening darkness. This year the number is 60 percent. I'm talking about the percentage of Greater Cleveland school levies that failed this past Election Day.
There's no sense in going through the litany of excuses, rationalizations, villains and victims surrounding these losses, except to say that nothing is going to dramatically change for many Ohio school systems until the state's current obscene school-funding system is fed to the fishes and a more equitable one is put in its place. Which, in case you've forgotten, is exactly what the Ohio Supreme Court said in the DeRolph case over a decade ago when it called the existing funding system "unconstitutional" because of its over-reliance on local property taxes and ruled that the state's public school financing method "must undergo a complete systematic overhaul."
That's why it's time for, if not outright revolution, than at least some bold behavior... Read more from Larry Durstin here
