Major League Baseball, the Cleveland Indians and Baldwin Wallace University celebrate the opening of the All-Star Student Veterans Center at BW. The community enrichment project is tied to MLB's Midsummer Classic hosted by the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field on Tue 7/9. A celebration and unveiling at BW will take place on Fri 7/5.

Britnee Davis, president of BW's Student Veteran Organization, which represents 90-plus military veterans currently enrolled, said the project addresses the distinctive needs of veterans working to earn degrees and transition into new civilian career paths. As Broadway's production of "Kinky Boots" closed this spring, BW's renowned Music Theatre program ramped up auditions as the first university in the nation granted rights to present the Tony Award-winning musical. With seven BW music theatre grads in the Broadway and national touring productions of "Kinky Boots," BW will close its November 2019 run with an "extravaganza" featuring as many of those alumni as possible.

The Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music presents the regional premiere of Glory Denied, an intimate chamber opera that tells the powerful story of Jim Thompson, longest-held prisoner of war in US military history, as he tries to re-assimilate into American life after nine years behind enemy lines in Vietnam.

CoolCleveland's John Benson talks with Akron native Mark Benson, who portrays John Lennon in 1964 The Tribute, about the band's focus on the first seven Beatles albums, culminating with Revolver.

This year's BW Beatles Festival also includes a program by CoolCleveland's Thomas Mulready on the group's 1966 masterpiece Revolver on Thu 3/22 and culminates with "Revolver in Concert" by the BW students on Sat 3/24, which is sold out.

Walter Shaub, who has called for expanding the reach of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics since resigning his post as the federal government's top ethics watchdog, will present Baldwin Wallace University's 2018 Spahr Chair Lecture in Ethics on Wed 3/28.

Scott Plate is well known for his directing and starring roles in top-notch productions throughout the region and nationally. After more than a decade teaching acting and chairing the music theatre program in the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music, Scott recently moved into a new role as associate professor of theatre at BW, where he also serves as the directing program coordinator.

Now he's turning his directing talents to Thornton Wilder's Our Town, the classic American masterpiece, at BW from Wed 10/4 - Sun 10/8, and he invited CoolCleveland to a recent rehearsal.

Scott outlines the four theatre concentrations: acting/directing, dance/movement, design/technical, and stage management, and points out the opportunities BW theatre students have with professional area theatres such as Great Lakes and Dobama, as well as the awards achieved by BW alums.

With an eye on the economy, two leading "Voices of Democracy," Newt Gingrich and Van Jones, debate what's at stake in this politically charged national election during a free, September 29 appearance at Baldwin Wallace University.

Gingrich, a conservative former U.S. House Speaker, and Jones, a progressive activist and CNN political commentator, will tangle on how the major party candidates might lead the nation to economic prosperity or peril. Sponsored by the BW School of Business, this compelling face-off will focus on a forecast of the economy, business and jobs under each candidate. All Voices of Democracy events are free, but tickets are required.
