The Intuitionist, was about an African-American elevator inspector, with superb writing exploring an invented world. Jonathan Lethem blurs the boundaries of mysteries, science fiction, westerns and writes unclassifiable books. Myla Goldberg's best-selling
Bee Season, was adapted into a critically acclaimed film.

Nancy Pearl on Jane & Michael Stern
Writers Center Stage Series
Cuyahoga County Public Library
Nancy Pearl, the rock star of librarians, featured on NPR and in media around the world, is back. She considers herself a "promiscuous reader" and feels beyond mere love for books, so she called her first book,
Book Lust. And now she is helping the Cuyahoga County Public Library celebrate "Reconnect With Reading."
Nancy preps us for the upcoming visit by Jane and Michael Stern, authors of the seminal, Road Food, in which they traveled around the country finding really good, home-cooked American food. Tapping into the American road mythology in which we travel to understand ourselves, as well as the tradition of food writing, going back to Julia Child's early books, the Sterns have won the James Beard award three time for their column in Gourmet. Jane & Michael Stern take the stage at the Ohio Theatre on Tue 12/2 as part of CCPL's Writers Center Stage series. Celebrate the recent passage of the County library's levy as well as their recent award as the 2nd best library system in the country. www.WritersCenterStage.org

Writers Center Stage Series
Cuyahoga County Public Library
Nancy Pearl is the rock star of librarians. Her series of books about great books, starting with
Book Lust, have not only become best sellers, but have put her at the top of everyone's guest list for interesting conversation. Watch this interview with Thomas Mulready of
Cool Cleveland, as Nancy Pearl discusses the upcoming appearance of historical writer David McCullough at the Ohio Theatre in Playhouse Square on October 21, 2008, as part of the Cuyahoga County Public Library's Writers Center Stage series. As Nancy Pearl tells it, David McCullough is one of those rare historical writers who is not only decorated and admired, with two Pulitzer Prizes, a National Book Award, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom, but also someone whose writing is accessible, entertaining
and educational. His latest book,
1776 is a
New York Times bestseller, and his recent
John Adams is now a 7-part HBO mini-series.
