A food desert is created in the inner city when the only food available for residents is expensive, high-calorie processed fast food or convenience store snacks. Students at Oberlin College started composting their waste and growing fresh vegetables in the hopes of offering fresh food not only to university students, but to residents of nearby inner city Cleveland.
