Among the artists featured at during this month's Tremont Art Walk are photographer Steven Sorin and sculptor Manfred Troibner. Troibner's work features visual metaphors with a twist. He creates thought-provoking pieces, like the grindstone with noses on it, in a lyrical style. Sorin's work included two series of images. One, a body of fetching poses with Mattel's Barbie as arm-candy to Michelangelo's David, called Wonderland. The other series, titled Enchanted Forest, Sorin gives us black and white shots of trees, taken in the neighborhoods and parks of Northeast Ohio, richly textured into hypnotic fractal patterns. Even though it was only April, there were a good number of people doing the Artwalk. One of the joys of walking around visiting the galleries are the people you meet on the street and in the bars, especially as the weather turns nice. We talked to lots of artists and civilians on the Walk, and we hope that the challenges of promoting the monthly Tremont Art Walk don't discourage the flinty Tremonster art community. The arts community continues to turn out great work worth seeing, and Cleveland should sustain great venues like this for its emerging and thriving arts. (:divend:)
