Energy - Forms, a show by Hildur Asgeirsdottir Jonsson, is an eclectic selection of works. No more than 7 refined ink drawings on velum elegantly framed and presented in a true minimalist fashion were nevertheless more than adequate to set up a charged field for meditative discourse.

Hildur moved from her native Iceland to Cleveland many years ago and after 2 years of architectural studies she decided to follow a different path. The artist stayed in Cleveland, married, and is currently raising a family while she describes herself primarily as a weaver.

The drawings, with their contour-like consistency and overall layout appear at first glance to be topographical maps. Yet as one is drawn closer to examine their intricate patterns, lines start to evolve in delicate shapes and forms referring abstractly to some kind of human intervention. One's first impression inevitably will lead to a conscious realization of how uniquely successful the artist managed to record part of her own journey and past.

Beyond the personal intimations derived through the work, the fine lines patiently drawn and intermingled on velum (a rather tedious and unforgiving technique) acquire the characteristics of surfaces in a state of flux; they appear to almost pulsate from a solid state of being to a more fine, lace-like state of transparency.

Expectations fluctuate between what may be construed as a cut through section of 2 steep outcrops of a natural landscape in the case of Einstein's Cross and an allusion to scientific illustration in Magnetic Field Landscapes. Despite their energizing appeal, the drawings posses a solemn and peaceful quality. Hildur recreates a world by successfully blending macro and micro qualities into an imaginary landscape suffused with calming energy; a place for escape and even more importantly an evocative metaphor for balance.
