For Holden Arboretum, and for our region, this is big. This is a tree museum, after all, with one of the Top 5 woody leaf collections in the country.

Watch the video interview with Holden president & CEO Clem Hamilton, from the very center of their new Rhododendron Discovery Garden, their first major renovation in 10 years.

They've installed three "nodes" designed to educate visitors: 1) the diversity of rhododendrons and the 1000 species on view; 2) hybridizing and cultivating new varieties; 3) how to grow rhododendrons at home in your own garden.

Their New Leaf Master Plan sees Holden dedicating a Tree Alle, renovating Corning Lake, building a deer fence, constructing an exciting 60-foot tall Canopy Walk over a huge ravine, and eventually, a new Visitors Center.

The Rhododendron Discovery Garden will officially open on Fri 5/18, free to the public from 11AM-4PM, followed by their cool event Rhodies After Dark, with live jazz, hors d’oeuvres, drinks and fireworks.
