Oh where to begin with Jimmy Dimora. First off, can we (the general public) stop acting shocked or appalled when a politician is "allegedly" involved in corruption?

I mean let's do the math. These guys spend millions of dollars campaigning for a job that they may or may not win. And for a job that normally pays in the high five figure to low six figure range.

So do we honestly think politicians aren't getting kickbacks and are just happy to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars? These guys are smart people. They got their education on the city streets or in the law library. Either way the result is the same; they know a racket when they see one. They aren't going to spend a million dollars unless they are getting two million back...

Port's plans for E. 55th St. should be opposed, not encouraged

I would like to comment on the editorials/articles by Jeff Biasella called VisionQuest? having to do with the Cleveland waterfront.

The Port's plans for E. 55th St. should be opposed, not encouraged, by concerned Clevelanders. Besides, it is fundamentally wrong to destroy access for thousands of east side neighborhood residents to the lakefront in order to increase downtown access to the lakeshore for some public activity and much private development.

In addition, it is fundamentally wrong to destroy long-time state and city parkland along the lakeshore for those same downtown interests. We have several alternatives to the Port's terrible plan to propose...

She Pops-Up Everywhere
Terry Schwarz tackles Bridge Project

Terry Schwarz was inspired to build pop-up events lasting only a few hours when she attended a conference in Berlin. Since receiving a Civic Innovation Lab grant, she has created Pop-Up City events all around NEO: a roller skating rink in the Leff Electric Building, a Leap Night fest on the East Bank of the Flats, a Pop-Up Dog Park on the Steelyard Commons Towpath Trail. She works with her students at the Kent State Design Collective and collaborates with small and large groups to showcase under-appreciated public spaces.

Next, Schwarz is working with IngenuityFest to bring life to the lower trolley level of the Detroit-Superior bridge on Fri 9/25 & Sat 9/26, utilizing built prototypes to exhibit potential uses of this monumental bridge, using rapid prototyping as a living charette for artists, activists and citizens. Hissssss - "Snake Alert, Snake Alert"

The 2009 political season is now in full swing, and, similar to ants showing up uninvited at a picnic, political reptiles of every ilk, stripe and coloration are currently slithering about in the grass spreading their venomous brand of realpolitik.

The first critter, the deadly "Forked-Tongue Sidewinder" has all of Ohio as its habitat - it can be found in all 88 counties. It can readily be identified by the distinctive green markings on it head that resemble dollar signs, and the high-pitched sound it emits... "Jobz, jobz, jobz..."

Jackson Scores Unimpressive Victory
Plus, An Unnecessary Road Project, and more...

For Mayor Frank Jackson a deep economic recession and an abysmally apathetic public made for a winning combination.

Getting more than 70 percent of the vote is quite impressive - until you look at the vote total. Then it is depressing.

Clevelanders apparently didn't care much to vote for anyone for Mayor.

Mayor Jackson's victory was even less impressive when you consider that some hot Council races drew some excitement among voters. The vote could have been even much lower without these contests.

Can you blame the public for being apathetic? I'd say NO...!
