Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2009 Induction
On the Red Carpet in Cleveland, Ohio 4.04.09

Cool Cleveland's Thomas Mulready and CC Kids correspondent Max perched on the Red Carpet at the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies in Cleveland, Ohio on April 4, 2009, and said, "Hi!" to a lot of cool folks: 2009 inductees rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson, Elvis Presley's drummer D.J. Fontana, guitar god Jeff Beck, Hip-Hop pioneers Run-D.M.C., and the members of Metallica, each arriving in their own limo.

Special guests were on hand to support their honored idols: Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin inducted Jeff Beck, and drummer Max Weinberg of the E Street Band & the Conan O'Brien Show ceremoniously inducted Elvis' bass player Bill Black and drummer D.J. Fontana.

They were joined by musical legends such as Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, members of Anthrax and Paul Shaffer's band, and Def Jam Records founder Russell Simmons, brother of Run-D.M.C.'s Joseph DJ Reverend "Run" Simmons, plus various officials and celebrities.

Wanda Jackson is known as the "The Belle of Rockabilly," or "The Queen of Rock," but actually, she's just the nicest lady you'll ever meet. And then she gets on stage, and unleashes her trademark growl, her rat-a-tat-tat yodel and her sky-high shrieks, and you start to understand how she's influenced generations of rockabilly, roots rock and cowpunk stylists. As one of the very first women who rocked, who toured with Elvis & Jerry Lee, who dressed with flash and style, and who took no prisoners, she's become more than an icon, but a true inspiration to anyone who's heard her records (Let's Have A Party, Fujiyama Mama) or caught her still-vital live act.

In town to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and kind enough to speak with Cool Cleveland's Thomas Mulready just moments before she took the stage at Cleveland's famed Agora, Ms. Jackson exhibits the grace and charm of a woman who turned the world on to a new sound, even before they had a name for it. Watch the video, and experience the gracious personality of this legend of rock and roll. http://www.WandaJackson.com, http://www.RockHall.com

Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels revolutionized music. His band Run-D.M.C. was the first rap act to chart in the Top 40, the first to score gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums, the first on the cover of Rolling Stone, the first with a Grammy, the first to appear on MTV. They've spawned not just the entire genre of Hip-Hop, but influenced music across all boundaries. Could a musical act be any more groundbreaking than that?

McDaniels learned he was adopted at age 35 over the phone from his adoptive mother, and now has become an advocate for adoptee rights and foster youth, working closely with Adoption Network Cleveland, who are brining him back to Cleveland for the upcoming National Adoption Conference 4/22-26. Thomas Mulready of Cool Cleveland spoke with him in Downtown Cleveland as he was preparing for the run-up to his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jim Henke has had his share of dream jobs. The Vice President of Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum joined up in 1994 after a long career as a music journalist at Rolling Stone, among others. As the chief curator, he is responsible for nearly all of the Rock Hall's content, from films and programming, to interactive displays and exhibitions like the brand new From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen experience, opening today, Wed 4/1. Plus he's excited about this week's bevy of events culminating in the 2009 Rock Hall Induction Ceremonies - held right here in Cleveland at Public Hall! Henke took time out of his busy schedule to chat with CC curator Thomas Mulready recently and this interview is quite the keeper.
