Judy Collins @ Cain Park 6/27 Wow! Awesome! At 70 years old, Judy Collins's voice continues to reach the high notes and low, ringing crystal clear and true (can she really be 70?). She is celebrating a successful career, 50 years in music. On stage solo with just a piano player, her guitar, and her voice, Collins had the 1,000-pavilion and lawn ticket holders in the palm of her hand. She briefly talked politics and praised the Obamas, reminiscent of regular folk concerts from days gone past.

Collins took us on a time travel journey, telling stories about the early days, naming her father, Rogers and Hart, and various folksingers like Dillon, Guthrie, and Leonard Cohen, as she sang excerpts from their famous pieces. All the middle-aged "hippies" in the audience were invited to sing along with her, and we happily added our voices to the beautiful summer evening.

We heard her signature favorites like "Send In The Clouds" and "Both Sides Now." She varied the pace spicing up the mellow mood singing from new song writers' repertoires as well. For the second encore, she sang her classic Amazing Grace a cappella. The audience joined in - an inspirational conclusion to a great concert!
