Back by Popular Demand! Hot Summer, Cool Camps, Part 3

So, I see you’re back for more. Still looking for the right camp for your kiddo? Or perhaps you are just curious about what else Cleveland has to offer for kids this summer? Thanks to all who sent in submissions to Cool Cleveland. It’s definitely going to be a hot summer of fun for kids in Cleveland!

Cleveland Museum of Natural History: Two totally different types of camp experiences can be found in one destination this summer – the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. If curiosity describes your kid, the Junior Medical Camps developed for grades 3 and up (different weeks for different ages), may be just what you need. In a partnership with Tri-C, these medical camps provide hands on explorations with many things medical and a bit ooey gooey (what kid doesn’t love ooey-gooey!). Several sessions are offered throughout the summer and run Monday through Friday from 9/9:30AM - 4/4:30PM (depending on the camp).

If medical madness isn’t your child’s passion and maybe you’re just not sure what their “spark” to learning is, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History may have the answer. The Circle Sampler Camp will have your child (grades 1-3 or 4-6), hoppin’ through the nine different institutions located in University Circle. Each week includes a multitude of explorations in art, culture, science, music and theatre. Several sessions (running Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm) are offered. Space is limited to 25 per the camp sessions defined above. Price varies by camp. Call 231-4600 ext. 3214.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo: With Earth Day nearly here (check out the zoo’s festivities here), it’s a great time to plug the summer fun at the zoo. Summer camps (both half and full day) are offered for ages 5 to 12 years. In addition, working mamas and papas will appreciate the $25/week before and after care, which keeps kids safe and happy while you make your commute. During each weekly camp offering, kids are grouped by age and explore exhibits, participate in arts, crafts, storytelling and even African drumming circles, all while encountering and understanding the importance of respecting and nurturing the natural world.

With two different camp experiences (A & B), children can participate in one or two weeks of programming. Zoo members do receive a discount and space is limited (and does fill up fast, with several age groups already sold out for various weeks). Online registration recommended. Questions? Call 635-3391.

Funutation Tekademy: When it does get too hot out this summer, you’ll find plenty of indoor options. With a slogan of making the world smarter, one byte at a time, this computer company is rolling into neighborhoods throughout northeast Ohio. Partnering with local recreation departments throughout and around the city, the computer training comes to you. Classes are designed for ages 8 to 15 years, and provide hands-on learning in robotics, 3D modeling, video game design and even building a computer. No experience is required. Price, sessions and dates vary by location. Call 386-8835.
