Cleveland gallery SPACES marks the return of New York artist Margaret Cogswell with a special kickoff affair Fri 2/3 at the Superior Viaduct venue.
The timing of the event is also to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the SPACES World Artists Program (SWAP), in which Cogswell was its third artist-in-residence.
In 2003 she created Cuyahoga River Fugues, a haunting mixed-media installation that wove together stories gathered from steel workers, environmentalists, fishermen, historians and city planners whose lives had indelibly intersected with the crooked river... Read more from John Benson here

Cool Cleveland has invited the five Cuyahoga County Prosecutor candidates to respond to questions in preparation for the all-important Democratic Primary on Tue 3/6. The winner of the primary will become the next prosecutor since the Cuyahoga County Republican Party has not offered a candidate.
Here are the five candidates and their answers to this week's questions: Subodh Chandra, Stephanie Hall, James McDonnell, Tim McGinty and Robert Triozzi. For this week, we asked each of them the same set of questions:
Question A: Two upstanding members of the minority community, C. Ellen Connally and Rev. Marvin McMickle both served as grand jury forepersons in recent years, and both wrote scathing letters to Bill Mason criticizing the process as being grossly unfair to minorities. What would you do to insure fairness in the process? (please answer this question in 350 words or less)
Question B: How would you feel about a citizen's review board? (please answer this question in 350 words or less)
Click below to read the prosecutor candidates' responses to our second set of questions:
* Subodh Chandra
* Stephanie Hall
* James J. McDonnell

We vaguely remember the first time we heard Hector Berlioz' Symphonie fantastique in Music Appreciation. Were we aware then what a poor, sick, bi-polar puppy Berlioz was?
How his Symphonie's improbable scenario of a stalker and his unrequited love, drug abuse and musical mayhem could not have been more autobiographical?... Read more from Elsa Johnson & Victor Lucas here
The woman in the ad intones that as an assistant county prosecutor, Tim McGinty kept us safe by locking up rapists and murderers.
The only problem is... he evidently went overboard and did too good of a job since not all of those he locked away were actually guilty. Yes, I'm back to the Michael Green case again...

Avon now has a botanical garden -- a 5,000-square foot conservatory housed within a big glass building nestled in the woods of Lorain County Metropark's Miller Nature Preserve.
The gardens are a pleasant respite from the winter cold. Right now the greenhouse is filled with waning poinsettias, and it will soon be filled with new banana trees. But that's not all... Read more from Claudia Taller here
No one noticed. No one pays much attention. It's only public money.
The County sent a check, as it does each January 15, to bondholders for the 1990s Gateway bailout.
We'll see this week how it has added up substantially. The latest payment means Cuyahoga County taxpayers have sent $116.8 million to bondholders since 1992 to pay for Gateway overruns...
