Mystery of Two
Exit Stencil Recordings

If Cleveland's Pere Ubu were reincarnated in 2009 a little looser, a little more laid back, and with a lot less (but still a lot of) histrionic vocals, they might like what they hear in Mystery of Two's second CD. They've been called "the sound of Cleveland," and we know what they mean. Furiously pounding away on guitars and drums, their music often finds itself in cul-de-sacs of suburban wasteland, only to make a U-turn and pour forth along the Shoreway at top speed. Label honcho Ryan Weitzel on guitar & vocs, bassist Jeff Deasy and drummer Nick Riley steal the keys to your car and before you know it, you're not exactly singing along, but hanging on for dear life.

Just back from a tour of Baltimore and Brooklyn, they deserve a second listen from more than the shoe-gazing crowd. Danceable, yes, but be prepared to stop on a dime, pivot and head off down I-77 with the steel mills smoking in your rear-view mirror. Your little sister and your older brother may also enjoy the ride.

Mystery of Two will be featured on WRUW-Live From Cleveland 91.1FM on Thu 7/30 at 10PM, and live at the Beachland Ballroom with an album release party on Fri 7/31 at 7PM, with Hot Cha Cha. http://www.myspace.com/mysteryoftwo http://www.exitstencil.org/mysteryoftwo.php
