Optimistic
We've been accused of feeling optimistic about our region. Guilty as charged.You could probably indict Richey Piiparinen as well. He doesn't think "Rust Belt" is a dirty word, even if some of our public officials do. Printmaker Erin Guido and graphic designer Katie Parland are feeling peppy with their new show at BUCKBUCK in Ohio City, "Nice To Meet You!!" Yes, it is.
And although he officially left the church in the late '60s, Larry Durstin is feeling quite optimistic about St. Coleman's pastor Father Begin. Joe Baur is feeling good about living Downtown and walking to cool events such as the recently-departed Tall Ships Festival. And Mansfield Frazier's even feeling optimistic about a certain form of racism practiced by Jimmy Haslam's enterprise. Roldo, though, is not impressed with the upcoming mayoral election. Why are we not surprised?
The Arts Fest at Cain Park, Freek Shows every Friday at the Centrum, The Cleveland Flea at Sterle's Slovenian Country House, a Meltdown in Lakewood, a Summer Series at Bad Racket, Jason White returns to Nighttown, the Euclid Beach Carousel returns to the Maltz. It's safe to assume that a contemporary classical composer who names her chamber ensemble after a Cedar Point roller coaster has a decidedly non-stuffy take on music. That's true of Margaret Brouwer, whose music has been played by orchestras worldwide. The proposed Opportunity Corridor will allow commuters from the far west suburbs to travel quickly from their homes to their east-side jobs at The Cleveland Clinic or in University Circle without ever seeing, let alone being breathed on, by a black or a brown or a poor person, or any resident of the neighborhoods of Cleveland...
