Perry Lorenzo
Opera expert lectures on Strauss
Perry Lorenzo insists he's no expert, just a fan, but he is internationally recognized as an authority on opera. From his perch as the Director of Education at the Seattle Opera, Lorenzo produces over 200 education events a year, and he lectures around the world in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and at the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth and the Berlin Wagner Festival. In fact, it was his love of Wagner that led him to the music of Richard Strauss, whose life and inspirations are being celebrated by The Cleveland Orchestra with their Spring Festival, featuring a concert performance of the monumental opera
Der Rosenkavalier, and
Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks, a rehearsal of which can be heard in the background as
Cool Cleveland's Thomas Mulready interviews Lorenzo at Severance Hall. Lorenzo lectures for free on at 7PM in Reinberger Chamber Hall, just before the Orchestra's performances of
Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks on 5/31 & 6/2, and he previews
Der Rosenkavalier on 6/1, a lecture he repeats at 7PM at the Westlake Porter Public Library on 6/4, and again on 6/5 at the Beachwood Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library.
