Respect

Let's agree to celebrate our differences and to support each other in our communities. We try to encourage this at Cool Cleveland, and we know most of our readers do the same. And BTW, respect isn't boring. Read about the urban Iditarod, a fun race with shopping carts, helping out the Food Bank and Harvest For Hunger. We worked with Justin Glanville when he was a student at CSU a few years ago; now he's written a cool book, New To Cleveland, that is enlightening even to us hard core Clevelanders.

Hollywood's OK, but we totally love our local film industry, so read our coverage of the Film Commission's red carpet celebration. Our commentators Mansfield Frazier and Larry Durstin weigh in on the local elections, and Cool Cleveland offers our own endorsements of key races. Download our free mobile app and you could win up to $500, like one lucky Cool Clevelander did, then anonymously donated their $100 winnings to the Domestic Violence Center. Talk about respect. --Thomas Mulready

The Cleveland Urban Iditarod
Fun with shopping carts

In America we have a penchant for turning the absurd into cherished tradition. For instance, there are bathtub races held every year at the Geauga County Maple Festival and La-Z-Boy chair racing in some other parts of the country.

And now there's the inaugural Cleveland Urban Iditarod, a day when shopping carts race through the city. But the event, slated for Sun 4/1, is at risk of being killed if you don't register... Read more from John Benson here

Winner Donates Anonymously
Cool Cleveland mobile app contest winner donates to Domestic Violence Center

Cool Cleveland has been making random cash awards to people who download and use our mobile app for iPhone and Android. In December 2011, we announced that Nola Lyons won our first $100 award.

Now our most recent winner tells us they would prefer to remain anonymous and instead donate their $100 winnings to the Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center. So we were pleased to send them our winner's check, and it will be put to good use. In fact, February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, so the $100 will go towards a good cause. Contact them to make your own donation or for more information here.

Many thanks to our anonymous winner for downloading the Cool Cleveland mobile app, and we thank them for the great idea to donate their award.

You could win $100, $250 or even $500 in our Cool Cleveland mobile app contest. Simply download the app for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad here, or for your Android smartphone or tablet here. Use your app to send cool events, news and even video to your friends via Facebook, Twitter or email. You could be our next winner!
