The Right Side
It's our choice if we want our public officials to be on the right side of history, as they were in Toronto when their Waterfront Development Corp set aside politics and designed a fabulous waterfront. Is it possible here? Of course it is. We just have to decide to do it. Read more in our continuing Sixth City series. We can certainly build off last week's Sustainability Summit, which is reviewed below, and off smaller development successes such as the Oddfellows Hall on Lorain or the new Red Stage at the Beck Cafe. We preview the return of ballet to Blossom after 20 years, Mansfield likes what he sees on the street; Roldo- not so much. But I know this much: no one can click on the 100+ links below and not feel that this region has a better chance than most to become sustainable. Let's get clickin'. --Thomas Mulready

Joffrey Ballet comes to Cleveland
Interview & preview
The Joffrey was the first ballet company to commission a rock and roll ballet, Astarte (1967). It was the Joffrey that gave Twyla Tharp her first commission for a ballet, the first crossover ballet (Deuce Coupe (1973) to music by the Beach Boys). Prince donated his music to the Joffrey, making Billboards (1993) possible.
The Joffrey carries special significance. It was one of the few American companies that didn't attempt that dubious goal of trying to out do the Russian ballet companies on their own terms...
