This time of year, we think hard about our survival, even though we know Spring is right around the corner. For inspiration, we turn to the four co-creators of Survival Kit Gallery and tour the bowels of CPH, on the verge of their move; we acknowledge how CSU has transformed the urban core; we talk with the Mighty Max Weinberg and review Sexy Robot; we discuss County ethics and Mansfield offers a key to success in the inner city. Survival Kit, a gallery that opened in the 78th Street Building, has a history that forms the perfect narrative to represent Cleveland as a city that can re-define itself as a vibrant and creative center. Four young artists, each with unique talents and backgrounds, had traveled and explored scenes all over the world and came to the conclusion that they could best realize their vision in Cleveland.

The proposed Cuyahoga County Code of Ethics drafted by the County Charter Transition Advisory Group provides enforcement measures that should keep our new county government ethically sound. We've been hearing about a possible Code of Ethics for Cuyahoga County, and County Executive Ed Fitzgerald has already provided employees with ethical guidelines, but a formal County Code of Ethics must be adopted by Tue 3/22, when temporary provisions approved on Mon 1/3 expire.

Celebrated drummer Max Weinberg, who held down the drum chair in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band since the 1970's, and was bandleader of the Max Weinberg 7 for 16 years on Late Night With Conan O'Brien, is returning to NEO, which he says has "been so supportive since the very first years back in the early 70's." He speaks and plays music with the students at Kent State University Stark campus on Mon 2/28 in a SOLD OUT engagement, An Evening With Max Weinberg.

When I first read about Demrick McCloud, the young man a jury recently acquitted of kidnapping and assault charges, I immediately wondered if there was relationship between him and Brandon McCloud, the 15-year-old that was killed by Cleveland police officers in his own bedroom back in 2005.
