The Wicked Organ Grinder's Ball
“Even if you kinda have a quirky little fetish or idea in your head, you’re not the only one,” says Gemma Viets, one of OGB’s organizers. “I think that people are exhibitionists, and it’s one of the few outlets that allows them to express themselves the way they want to and not be judged. We want you to come away thinking, ‘Wow, I can really be myself, that was really a lot of fun.’”
One of the main attractions this year will be local contortionist and aerial acrobatics performer Sora Sol (check her out at http://www.myspace.com/passionate_sun ). “I’m really excited,” Gemma’s husband Tommy says. “The last five years, I’ve been looking for contortionists. A lot of them are in Europe or Asia, so I’m really excited about finding Sora. I think it’s really hot, you know -- use your imagination!”
In addition to Sol’s breathtaking exhibitions (she will perform two separate acts), another Clevelander, Aaron Bonk, will amaze the audience with his stilt dancing; Akron’s own tantalizing Rubber City Bombshell Burlesque troupe (http://www.myspace.com/rubbercitybombshells) is back to add some Vegas-style sexy with two fierce presentations; Eragon & Dravyn return from the City of Angels for a spectacle to entice and shock; and, as always, there will be four titillating and inventive fetish scenes showcasing local models.
Darius, an OGB veteran who now works as the event’s Managing Director, believes that everyone can feel comfortable at a fetish event.
“The fetish community is more open than any other, and so they’re much more accepting of people’s differences than in any other community I have ever seen. They don’t care if you’re gay, straight, bisexual, black, white, [Asian], you know? They just don’t care, because it’s all about the fetish, it’s about enjoying yourselves to the fullest extent.” He adds, “People say they don’t fit in—yeah they will. I think everybody has some kind of fetish.” What’s his? “I actually don’t mind being spanked. I used to not like it, but being in the fetish community for a while, you kinda get used to it! ‘A little harder, please!’”
What do the creators of Organ Grinder’s want people to experience? “The number one thing I want people to walk away with,” Gemma explains sincerely, “I want them to be turned on, to be able to just open up. I get very turned on, I get very excited every time we do an event.”
Tommy urges people to come check out the show. “It’s a very special event, a once a year thing, and it’s always different, it’s always a very professional show, a very creative team. That’s why this is year 13,” he brags. “I’d recommend taking Saturday off. You don’t want to be the guy that hears about it on Monday.”
To avoid being that guy (or gal), take Gemma’s advice and get to Metropolis (2325 Elm St., West Bank of the Flats in Cleveland) early on Friday, March 28. Doors open at 9PM, show starts at 11PM. No pre-sale tickets. For more information go to http://www.fetishplayland.com or http://www.myspace.com/fetishplayland.
