VIDEO: Jim Szabo Talks JazzFest
Legendary Disc Jockey Reveals His Picks

Since the early 1970's, Jim Szabo has been a jazz disc jockey on WRUW-FM, Case Western Reserve University's campus station at 91.1FM. So Cool Cleveland figured he'd be the best person to hip us to scope out coolest acts appearing at the upcoming 32nd annual Tri-C JazzFest, now one of the premiere jazz showcases in the country.

Besides the big names such as Smokey Robinson, Orchestra National de Jazz, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Medeski, Martin & Wood and up-and-comer Trombone Shorty, this year's JazzFest (Thu 4/28 thru Sun 5/8) throws its high-powered spotlight on a slew of local jazz talent: Ernie Krivda's "Thunder From The Heartland," The Dave Sterner Quintet, Sammy DeLeon doing the music of Tito Puente, The Tri-C High School All-Stars, and even the now-legendary Shaw High School Marching Band. Watch the video interview with Jim Szabo about Tri-C JazzFest.

DBR Rocks Cleveland
Composer & Violinist at Tri-C

Daniel Bernard Roumain (known as DBR) a Haitian-American from South Florida, came bolting out of the classical music world, and with his hand-made 6-string electrified violin, mashed-up Hip-Hop beats and collaborations with the likes of DJ Scientific, but he harbors no responsibility for the current dire straits of classical music:

"I'm a derelict, I'm a nomad, I am gutless, I am completely consumed with myself... I need to be absolutely true to my music and my work."

DBR workshops all week in Cleveland, then performs in the new Black Box theatre on Tri-C's Metro Campus this Sat 2/26 at 8PM, with Woodbox Beats and Balladry. Listen to the exclusive Cool Cleveland interview here.
