Winner of the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album for Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue, Terri Lyne Carrington has spent her career playing with legends such as Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Stan Getz, Cassandra Wilson and many more. Now she's leading her own charge as one of the top jazz drummers in the field.

Money Jungle is Carrington's spin on the pivotal 1963 trio recording by Duke Ellington, Max Roach and Charles Mingus, but "there’s nothing old about great music and great musicians," says Carrington. "You have to be able to appreciate the past if you want to have a future." Check out Terri Lyne Carrington on Sat 6/28 at 5:15PM at the Ohio Theatre as part of the 2014 Tri-C JazzFest. Details.

Christian McBride has been working with pianist Christian Sands and drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr. for 3 years, and their CD was even nominated for a Grammy. Nothing new to McBride, who's won three already.

"It's a pretty diversified trio," says McBride. "The real core foundation is hardcore swingin', blues and the American songbook." McBride has performed with Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Roy Haynes, John McLaughlin and Kenny Garrett and has recorded on more than 300 dates as a sideman. He spent some time in Cleveland this April as Artist-In-Residence. Check out Christian McBride and his trio on Sat 6/28 at 6:45PM at the Ohio Theatre as part of the 2014 Tri-C JazzFest. Details.

Ernie Krivda's big band celebrates B3 blues with an homage to Oliver Nelson & Jimmy Smith.

Cleveland-born sax legend Ernie Krivda has a thing for the bluesy, organ-backed jazz that came out of the early 1960s. That's why he and his Fat Tuesday Big Band put together "A Big Band, a B3 and the Blues" for the 35th annual Tri-C JazzFest.

David Thomas will play the Hammond B3, and Mike Cady and Erin Kufel will be featured on vocals. The show is part of Tri-C JazzFest. See it at 2:45PM on Sat 6/28, at the Ohio Theatre. Get your tickets here.

Guitarist John Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser whose music falls somewhere between post-bop jazz and R&B. He has recorded more than 30 albums as a leader and collaborator. Trombone Shorty (Troy Andrews) continues to push the envelope, happily blending jazz, rock 'n' roll, soul and that special something that comes out of New Orleans.

The two form a double bill beginning at 7:15PM on Fri 6/27 at the Palace Theatre at part of the 35th annual Tri-C JazzFest. Got your tickets? Get 'em here.

Spanish-Harlem born Eddie Palmieri is a powerhouse on the piano, no matter what the genre. He moves comfortably between the improvising, groove orientation of Latin Jazz and the dance-compelling Salsa landscape.

The 10-time Grammy winner takes the stage at Tri-C JazzFest at 9:30PM on Fri 6/27, at the Ohio Theatre. For tickets, click here.

Singer-songwriter Raul Midón was blinded when, as an infant, he was placed in an incubator with no eye protection.

The fact that he has never seen another person play guitar might account for the virtuosic, unorthodox, way he approaches the instrument. Along with tapping the fretboard with his strumming hand, a la Eddie Van Halen, he uses the guitar's body as a drum. Add to this his tendency to mimic a bebop trumpet with his mouth and you have a modern take on the one-man band.

This one-man band serves up a blend of jazz, funk, folk, R&B and soul. Come hear him at 7:30PM Sat 6/28, as part of the 35th annual Tri-C JazzFest. For tickets, click here.
