Born in Israel to Ethiopian Jewish refugees, singer Ester Rada grew up in a whirlwind of culture influences. After finishing a mandatory tour in the Israeli army, she worked as an actress, then returned to her first love: music. Rada cites strong influences from early 20th century soul power women Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, as well as more contemporary black divas including Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott.
Described as "gracefully combining Ethio-Jazz funk, soul and r&b, with mixed undertones of black grooves," Tri-C JazzFest celebrates International Jazz Day Thu 4/30 by bringing Rada’s world sound to the Hanna Theatre.
Growing up the son of jazz legend bassist John Clayton offered pianist, arranger and composer Gerald Clayton a lot of advantages, but he’s worked hard to make the most of his opportunities.
In town for gigs at Mahall's, Blu+, a church or two, and numerous workshops & talks, Clayton previews his father's gig at the 2015 Tri-C Jazz Fest on 07.09.15 with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.
Tri-C’s Hospitality Management program has been invited to participate in the 2015 Ultimate Culinary Clash by InterContinental Hotels.

When you’ve got 5-time Grammy winner Tommy LiPuma producing your album, you tend to think big. He’s reached the pinnacle of success with artists like Barbara Streisand, Diana Krall, George Benson and Paul McCartney.
So trumpeter Dominick Farinacci called in the best in the business to help cut his album in studio at the Tommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland.
CoolCleveland’s Thomas Mulready was granted exclusive access inside the control room with LiPuma & Farinacci and they revealed their techniques for choosing material, working up arrangements and recording some of the best musicians to pick up an instrument. Farinacci’s eclectic new album will feature songs by Tom Waits, Gnarls Barkley, Cream, and more.
Every semester, Tri-C hosts the Black Box Club, featuring collaboration between departments: from film students to live sound engineers, dancers and visual artists, theatre artists to jazz and rock musicians. Even journalism students will showcase their work along with web design & game design.
Cool Cleveland spoke with Paul Cox, Dean of Creative Arts, in Tri-C’s Black Box Theatre in the Tommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts, where the first event takes place on Thu 12/4 at 6:30PM. Future events will take place at other Tri-C campuses. Artist-in-residence Jimi Izrael hosts the event, which eventually morphs into a dance party with rappers and DJ.

Both products make great gifts, and proceeds support the Hospitality Management Scholarship Fund.
