Jim Petsock is HR manager at UPS, but in his spare time, he serves as United Way's Special Events Co-Chair and Community Investment Volunteer. Quite a mouthful, but it really means he helps pull together hundreds of volunteers to work on United Way's cool projects, like this one to build a fitness park for the recently homeless at Park Village Apartments on Hough. When Cool Cleveland's Thomas Mulready caught up with him, Jim was painting a fence at United Way's annual Hometown Huddle, building an 8-station Fitness Zone with the help of Browns players, and thrilled to be giving back to the community. Co-chairs host pancake flip
Pat Mullin & David Hooker, Managing Partners of Deloitte and Thomspon Hine respectively, have set an ambitious, but reachable $40M goal for the 2009 United Way campaign, announced at their annual Pancake Flip on Public Square, where Cool Cleveland's Thomas Mulready caught up with them to talk about the essential assistance that United Way provides to the community.While volunteers flipped over 9300 pancakes, Pat & David talked about the 20% increase in 211 calls, the new emergency help line provided by United Way, and the 202 United Way agencies who receive support and provide assistance to over 400,000 people each year. Beverly Schneider is the consummate young professional in Cleveland today. In her day job, she works at Thompson, Hine LLP, but she stays connected to the community through her work on GeneratioNEXT, United Way's group for young professionals 25-40 who are looking for a fun and meaningful way to engage with philanthropy in the region, especially during these difficult times when the need is so urgent.
