Educate. Collaborate. Act.
These three words are both philosophy and mission of the Cleveland Coalition, a civic organization of Clevelanders working to create a more connected, vibrant community.
The Cleveland Coalition takes one issue (the new casino, for example) and examines it in depth (educate), talks to other organizations about it (collaborate) and makes a plan to effect change (act).
CoolCleveland's Sarah Valek caught up with two of the Coalition's founding members, Fran DiDonato and Gauri Torgalkar, at that peerless 1890 Cleveland venue, The Arcade, during the Great Lakes Urban Exchange (GLUE) Conference where they spoke on citizen-led visioning. Here they talk about what they do and what gives them hope in an often cynical environment... Watch the video & get more info here.

After a whimsical wander through the eccentric art for sale in the BAYarts Gallery Shop you emerge from the jumble into a small spare venue of thoughtful, maybe even somber pastels and oil paintings by Edward Beyer.
The large pastels are mostly renderings of dark barns and closely-cropped farm buildings. The geometric shapes that depict the structures are oversized and over simplified with dark and saturated color schemes. The very few and tiny windows and other accents give the forms almost comic proportion, as if they could be backdrops for some dark animated feature... Read more from Carol Drummond here

The Terminal Tower, a uniquely Cleveland venue, was built by O.P. Van Sweringen and M.J. Van Sweringen. Construction for the 52-floor multi-use office building began in 1926 and was completed in 1929. The Observation Deck on the 42nd floor has been closed for nine years since the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Cool Cleveland correspondent Susan Schaul talked with Terminal Tower General Manager Stephen Bir about how the Observation Deck has been opened for a limited four weekend time span and this weekend, Sat 7/31 & Sun 8/1, is your last chance this summer to visit...
