Mary Verdi-Fletcher
Dancing Wheels
Mary Verdi-Fletcher and Dancing Wheels are more famous around the world than they are here in their home town of Cleveland. They rehearse at the Masonic Auditorium, and they produce educational programs in the region that reach over 900 kids.
Cool Cleveland's Thomas Mulready caught up with Mary at Akron's Old Trail School, conducting a residency on the life of Helen Keller, in which the kids not only learned to work with stand-up and sit-down dancers in wheelchairs, they also learned sign language and braille.
Watch the video, and see how Mary and her troupe of physically integrated dancers interact with students and create amazing theatrical productions worldwide.
