CoolCleveland.com and Beck Center partner to host
cool TV party in Lakewood
Low-priced tickets add value to jam-packed event on March 20
Cleveland, Ohio, March 6, 2009
Cool Cleveland is known for it's kickin' parties. Since 2002, this weekly e-blast that spotlights cool people and things to do in Northeast Ohio has been promoting it's own brand of after-work networking parties all over the region. From a Mystery Tour in Cleveland's Chinatown, to a hot singles party in the Warehouse District or a sizzling Brazilian Carnival in the Flats, to a pre-concert gathering with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom or a mind-blowing opera at Oberlin College, Cool Cleveland's parties have attracted civic-minded young people and those looking for good food, open bar, hot entertainment and interesting locales, all geared to spotlight the coolest places and activities in the region.
The bar has been raised even higher, with a value-filled experience centered around the Cleveland premiere of the critically acclaimed Broadway production of The Farnsworth Invention, written by The West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin, to be presented at the Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood.
The Cool Cleveland TV Party takes place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Beck Center, 17801 Detroit Avenue, featuring complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine, an exhibition preview at the Cleveland Artists Foundation gallery, performance showcases by students of the Beck Center's Education program, complimentary coffee, tea and pastries in the newly-opened Beck Cafe, and an exhibition of vintage televisions from the TV Dinner Club Museum.
Ticket price at the door will be $30.00 per person. Significant ticket discounts up to 50% OFF are available if purchased in advance online at http://www.CoolCleveland.com. The event is open to the public, and the single Cool Cleveland ticket price includes a ticket to The Farnsworth Invention ($31 value), complimentary hors d'oeuvres & wine, coffee, tea and pastries, preview of the Cleveland Artists Foundation exhibition, showcases from Beck Center students and television exhibits.
Party-goers will discover a special preview of the show, Painting The Town; Cleveland in the Late 20th Century, in the Cleveland Artists Foundation gallery, which is housed in the Beck Center lobby. The Cleveland Artists Foundation was created over 25 years ago to preserve, research, collect and exhibit the most significant visual art of the Northeast Ohio region. Admission to the CAF galleries is always free. Painting the Town is scheduled to open to the public on Saturday, March 21, but will be open as a special sneak preview to Cool Cleveland ticket holders.
Party attendees will be entertained by a rotating selection of featured performances by students of the Beck Center's Education program. More than 3000 individuals weekly partake in the Centers education programs in Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts and Creative Arts Therapies. Showcases of various genres of art will be featured throughout the Beck Center's lobby and in the Beck Cafe during the Cool Cleveland party.
The Beck Cafe, recently opened by international art curator Paul Sykes, and featuring an 11-foot indoor waterfall, and underground Koi pond, will be open during Cool Cleveland festivities before and after the event, featuring complimentary coffee and tea, along with a selection of fine pastries. The Beck Cafe is conveniently attached to the Beck Center lobby, and also features it's own rotating exhibitions of world-class art.
An exhibition of vintage televisions, arranged by the TV Dinner Club Museum of Fairlawn, Ohio, will greet Cool Cleveland partiers in the Beck lobby, displaying the art and artifacts of mid-20th Century American television.
Then the party kicks into high gear with a complimentary ticket to the exciting Beck Center production of The Farnsworth Invention, written by The West Wing creator and writer Aaron Sorkin, and directed by Beck Center's Artistic Director Scott Spence. The play is noted for its witty banter, quick dialogue and entertaining documentary style. Cool Cleveland attendees will relate to the story of the challenges of a new technology being born, and will learn about the history of one of the most important inventions in American history.
“As the Beck Center for the Arts continues to expand its outreach and impact across our region, we're pleased to host a Cool Cleveland party to showcase The Farnsworth Invention and our distinguished educational program," said Beck Center President and Chief Executive Officer Lucinda Einhouse. "We couldn't be happier than to work with CoolCleveland.com and all our great partners to welcome cool Clevelanders to a fabulous experience at the Beck Center."
"We are thrilled to be partnering with such stellar Lakewood institutions," said CoolCleveland.com's Thomas Mulready. "This Cool Cleveland party has everything: a stimulating play by one of my favorite writers, a generous and creative spread of food & wine, an art exhibition preview, student showcases, an outrageous TV exhibit, and dessert & coffee at one of my favorite new cafes, The Beck Cafe. All for a slammin' price. What's not to like?"
